How Biuret Content Affects SCR Nozzle Clogging — and How to Control It

Biuret is a key DEF indicator. Excess levels can crystallize and clog SCR injectors, reducing NOx conversion efficiency.

In an SCR selective catalytic reduction system, automotive urea decomposes at high temperature to produce ammonia, which reduces NOx in the exhaust. However, if biuret from the urea feedstock or process is too high, crystals can deposit in injectors and lines, causing uneven dosing, system alarms, or even torque limiting.
